Nuwa + Fuxi Pantin (Jumping Jack Toy)

Sale Price:$275.00 Original Price:$550.00

Nuwa + Fuxi (Jumping Jack Toy) is our interpretation of the ancient Chinese legend. The individual pieces (hands, head, crown, arms, thighs, torso, legs and feet) have all been laser cut from thin plywood, pyrographically burned and finished with acrylics. The pieces have been attached in the same method that all jumping jack toys have been made for centuries. The arms and legs are articulated with string and embellished with decorative beads.

Although not designed to be a functional jumping jack toy due to the fragility of the piece, it should be a welcome addition to anyone’s collection. Please understand that this pantin was designed an art piece and NOT a working toy!

Nuwa + Fuxi was recently featured in the DTLA Hive Gallery’s September 2019 show. We were very proud to be selected as the Featured Small Wall Artist. Thank you Nathan!

In Chinese legend and mythology, Fuxi and Nuwa are the god and goddess who created the mankind. They have snakelike tails and they are siblings. Their mother is Huaxu. Legend has it that Huaxu once visited a place named Leize. She saw a huge footprint. Out of curiosity, she stepped on it. And she got pregnant suddenly. After 12 years of pregnancy, she gave birth to Fuxi. It is believed that that foot print belonged to the God of Thunder. So Fuxi is generally considered the son of the God of Thunder. And Nuwa is his half sister.
