Foo Dog Curio Cabinet (Onna-Begeisha) - 2019
"Foo Dog Curio Cabinet" depitcts the foo dog, who is also an Onna-Begeishi, guarding her “altar” palace. She is covered in female empowerment symbols as she stands on top of a ball that is of the world and surrounded by danger in the dragon circling the equator. Naginata is the long handled sword favored by them. a very versatile weapon.
We’ve constructed a cabinet from reclaimed wood and added vintage metal parts, wood legs, pyrographically burned the front panel (which slides open to reveal shelves for storage) as well as the sides and then hand-painted using acrylics. The border has also been meticulously burned, painted and embellished with oxidized copper sheeting and brass and copper nails.
Our Foo Dog Curio Cabinet was recently featured in the DTLA Hive Gallery’s September 2019 show. We were very proud to be selected as the Featured Small Wall Artist. Thank you Nathan!
