"China Tryptic" Encaustic

These original photos, taken in China, were shot for a study of decorative facades. The photos have been merged as one and printed on archival watercolor paper. Its edges are wrapped in copper sheeting and mounted to a heavy wooden frame with copper nails. The image is then covered in Encaustic process using organic natural-tone beeswax and damar resin. The wax covers the top of the photograph leaving the copper exposed on the sides. As all boxes are assembled by hand and with love, some imperfections are evident and embraced. This includes the natural properties of beeswax and its unique malleable nature creating drips and creases.
