"Medicine Woman Front" Encaustic Box

Taken from an original charcoal sketch by the artist, the image was manipulated and re-sized for use in this piece. It is printed on archival watercolor paper and attached to the coffee-stained wooden frame with copper nails. The edges of the box are wrapped in a thin strand of copper sheeting. The image is then covered in Encaustic process using organic natural-tone beeswax and damar resin. The wax covers the top of the image leaving the copper exposed on the sides. As all boxes are assembled by hand and with love, some imperfections are evident and embraced. This includes the natural properties of beeswax and its unique malleable nature creating drips and creases.
